Condition & Product Classification Guide
How Berelot distinguishes original, restored, reproduction and newly made lighting.
Why product classification matters
Berelot offers different kinds of decorative lighting. Not every product has the same age, history or manufacturing background. The individual product page is therefore the primary source for understanding exactly what is being offered.
Original Antique or Vintage
This classification is used for a period piece that Berelot reasonably represents as original antique or vintage based on the information available at the time of listing.
Such pieces may show patina, surface wear, marks, oxidation, finish variation or other signs associated with age and previous use. These characteristics can form part of the individuality and stated condition of the piece.
Restored Original
A restored original is a period piece that has undergone restoration, repair, refinishing, rewiring or replacement of one or more components while retaining the identity of the original fixture.
Restoration may include work such as cleaning, polishing, structural repair, rewiring, replacement sockets, fasteners, canopies, chains, glass or other components. Where known and material to the purchase, significant restoration or replacement components are disclosed in the listing.
Complete historical restoration records may not always be available for older pieces.
Reproduction / Vintage-Style
A reproduction, vintage-style, antique-style or period-inspired product is newly manufactured to reflect the appearance or design language of an earlier style or period.
These pieces are not represented as original antique or vintage items. Terms such as Art Deco-inspired, nautical-inspired or vintage-style describe their design character rather than their age.
Newly Made / Custom
Newly made and custom products are current-production pieces. They may be manufactured as standard Berelot designs or made, adapted or finished for a particular customer or project.
Custom-made, bespoke or specially modified pieces may be subject to separate cancellation and return conditions as stated in the applicable policy or written quotation.
Electrical components and installation
Electrical components on original and restored lighting may have been replaced or updated during the life of a fixture. Product pages will state known electrical information where available.
Because electrical standards vary by destination and individual installation, all lighting should be installed, adapted or checked by a suitably qualified electrician before use.
Photographs and condition
Product photographs form part of the item description. Colour and finish can vary slightly between screens and lighting conditions. For original and restored pieces, visible patina, wear and surface variation shown in photographs should be considered when assessing condition.
If you need additional photographs or clarification about a particular product, contact hello@berelot.com before ordering and include the product name or SKU.
Product-specific information takes priority
This guide explains Berelot's general classifications. The individual product listing remains the controlling description of the particular product offered for sale.
